Intermediate back-end developer, Java and React, commercial payments, major bank, Montreal

A major Canadian bank is rebuilding the cross-cutting architecture of its commercial payments. The transformation team is looking for an intermediate back-end developer, strong on Java and able to work on the React front end.

What you will do

• Design and evolve Java Spring Boot microservices and APIs
• Integrate them with messaging: JMS, IBM MQ, Kafka
• Handle the React front end, about 20% of the time
• Write tests, take part in code reviews, own quality and security (KMS, SSO, encryption)
• Support in production what you ship: you build it, you run it

What we are looking for

• Solid Java experience (Spring Boot, microservices, APIs) and hands-on React
• Messaging integrations: JMS, IBM MQ or Kafka
• AWS and DevOps tooling: Git, Jenkins, Maven, Nexus, JUnit
• Used to agile teams and automated testing
• Fluent French is mandatory, English is not required
• Nice to have: Jira and Confluence, Robot Framework, ReadyAPI or Postman, AWS EKS, Kubernetes, Infrastructure as Code, using AI to deliver faster

Terms

• Montreal, hybrid, 2 days a week in the office
• Permanent position at Abbeal, 12-month renewable assignment at the client
• Target start: early November 2026
