Location requirement

You must already be living in Japan. If you need your employer to handle the work authorization paperwork, Abbeal takes care of it. We do not relocate or sponsor visas from overseas for this role, and applications from outside Japan will not be considered.

The context

Abbeal is hiring a Full-Stack Engineer for a long-term engagement with a large Japanese fintech. You join the team that builds and runs the internal back-office platform: the tools employees use every day to manage users, merchants and their data. The team works in English, the product is used by people across the company, and you own features end to end, from the backend service to the screen.

What you'll do

  • Build and evolve backend services in Java 21 and Spring Boot 3, in a microservice architecture (BFF pattern)
  • Develop the frontend of the internal tools with Vue.js 3
  • Contribute to the parts of the codebase written in Kotlin
  • Work with Docker, Kubernetes, ArgoCD and Jenkins to ship safely, with SonarQube quality gates on every PR
  • Own your features: talk with product managers and internal users, clarify needs, follow them to production
  • Take part in Scrum ceremonies, code reviews, unit, integration and regression testing

What we're looking for (in order of priority)

  • Must already live in Japan (Tokyo area)
  • Java and Spring Boot: solid production experience, this is the first criterion
  • Vue.js (3 ideally), or real willingness to work on the frontend side
  • Kotlin: a plus
  • Docker and CI/CD (Kubernetes, ArgoCD, Jenkins or similar): a plus
  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, autonomous, product mindset
  • Business-level English. Japanese is a plus, not a requirement
  • Available quickly
