Through Abbeal, take technical ownership of the AI agent platform of a Japanese luxury travel company in Tokyo. Rails, Next.js, AWS, MCP servers, agents running on production data. Permanent role, ¥8M to ¥11M. Japan residency required.

Location requirement

You must already be living in Japan with valid work authorization. We are not sponsoring relocation or visa transfers from overseas for this role. Applications from outside Japan will not be considered.

Context

We are supporting a Japanese bespoke luxury travel company based in Tokyo (Shibuya), founded in 2017, around fifty people. It designs trips across Japan for affluent international travellers, blending traditional culture, gastronomy and adventure, from planning to post-trip follow-up.

Company-wide use of AI agents is this company's number one strategic priority. They need the person who will own the technology: the in-house CRM, the MCP servers and agents working on real data. Not demos.

The role

  • Own the technical strategy of the in-house CRM (Rails, Aurora PostgreSQL, AWS) and new services
  • Design the AI agent foundation that operates on production data, with audit logging
  • Design and extend the MCP servers connecting agents to existing systems
  • Lead the Next.js / Rails team and run code reviews
  • Set up security: ISMS compliance, access control, personal data protection

What we are looking for

  • You already live in Japan with valid work authorization
  • 5+ years building web applications
  • Hands-on Next.js and Ruby on Rails, team development on GitHub
  • API and schema design (PostgreSQL or MySQL), AWS architecture and deployment
  • Technical lead of a team of 3 or more
  • LLM or AI agent applications: LLM APIs, MCP or function calling, RAG, agent evaluation and monitoring
  • Daily use of AI coding tools
  • Nice to have: Bedrock, Anthropic API, Claude Agent SDK, product background, startup team building, ISMS
  • Mostly Japanese-speaking working environment

Practical details

  • Permanent full-time contract (正社員), no freelance option
  • ¥8M to ¥11M per year, 45 h fixed overtime included
  • Tokyo, Shibuya, flexible hours with core time 10:00 to 15:00, remote possible after onboarding
  • 120 days off per year
